Oleg Bogod

Oleg Bogod was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1975 and immigrated to Israel 1996. Dr. Bogod holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) from Bar Ilan University, Department of Composition, in the class of Professor Gideon Lewensohn and Professor Betty Olivero, a Master’s degree from the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music, Department of Composition, in the class of Professor Slava Ganelin, and a Bachelor’s degree from the Jerusalem Academy of Music in Composition and Jazz Piano Performance in the class of Professor Slava Ganelin. Prior to his immigration, Dr. Bogod completed his studies in Jazz Piano at the Music College in Vilnius.

Bogod has composed a wide variety of pieces for soloists, chamber ensembles and orchestras. His pieces have been performed widely on stage in Israel and abroad, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Bozar Center in Brussels, Cello Biënnale in Amsterdam, Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, Heichal Hartarbut Tel Aviv, The Jerusalem Theater, the Jerusalem Music Center and many more. His works are broadcast regularly on Israel radio’s Kol HaMusica and he receives numerous commissions to compose music for special venues and leading musicians.

In March 2014 his piece “Nigunim Nigudim” for soprano saxophone and wind orchestra was performed at Carnegie Hall in New York in the framework of the New York International Wind Orchestra Festival. In January 2015 two of Bogod’s works: “Channels” for solo cello, and “Through Gravity” for solo saxophone were selected to be performed at the finals of the Aviv Competitions in Tel Aviv. His piece “Channels” won first place in the category of the Best Performance of Israeli Work.

March 2015, the world premier of his work “Danze di Flautissimo” for four soloists and symphony orchestra (commissioned by the Jerusalem Symphony), was performed by the Jerusalem Symphony, conducted by Chen Zimbalista. In April 2010, his piece “Parallels” for a Piano trio piano was performed at the Jerusalem Music Center in the framework of Hassadna’s Israel Music Festival. The piece was commissioned specially for the festival.

Dr. Bogod has written numerous arrangements and orchestrations that have been performed by ensembles in London, Paris, Toronto, and Brussels, as well as at the Israeli President’s residence, the Knesset, the Binyanai Hauma International Convention Center in Jerusalem for the 90th birthday celebration of former President Shimon Peres, and many other festive events in Israel. As a composer and arranger, Bogod participated in the “Tezeta” ensemble that combines jazz music with traditional Ethiopian music. With them he also performed with great success as pianist at Ethnic and Jazz music festivals in Israel and abroad. Bogod has composed original music for the jazz ensembles “Tet a-tet” and “Prima”, with them he also performed as pianist in numerous Jazz festivals and concerts.

In 2002 Bogod won first prize in the composition competition “The Golden Menorah” in Moscow, Russia. In addition, Bogod has composed a number of original music for the cinema and theater.
