Alex Kalman Alex Kalman is pianist, composer and musical arranger
Kalman was born in the former Soviet Union in 1970.
At the age of 7, he began his piano studies in the city of his childhood in Nikolaev, Ukraine, where he also graduated from the College of Music with honors.
In 1989, he was accepted to the Tchaikovsky Music Academy in Kiev, capital of Ukraine.
During his studies he participated in national competitions and won prestigious prizes.
He immigrated to Israel in 1991 and was accepted to the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University and completed his studies in 1993.
He was awarded a scholarship from the Keren Sharet America Israel Foundation.
He teaches piano at the Steinberg Municipal Conservatory in Holon and the Givat Brenner Music Center.
Kalman is a regular accompanist of the Telma Yellin High School Dance Department.
He is a musical arranger in many productions and manages various ensembles.
He performs as a soloist and member of ensembles, performs music in many styles and works of his own.
In his performances he combines young musicians and promotes future generation players.
He writes piano music and various instruments.
Alex's works attest to his knowledge of various musical styles.
One thing that characterizes Alex the most is the enormous interest in the various facets of music and the ability to get to the depth of style.
In his works you can find the aromas and flavors of genres and styles such as ragtime, jazz, Spanish music, Israeli "desert" models, South American music, Hasidic music and more.
He invites all these into his music and combines them with his personal interpretation and his unique way of music.
The result is a wide range of colorful musical works, flowing, very melodic, with an excellent harmonic sense, fascinating rhythms - music that is sometimes tonal and sometimes modal, and which evokes the composer's excellent improvisation.
