Artem Nizhnik

Artem Nizhnik Composer, accordion performer, educator and conductor.
Artem Nizhnik was born in Ukraine in 1980. He graduated from Artemovsk musical college in 1998, earned a bachelor`s degree from Donetsk State Musical Academy named after Sergey Prokofiev in 2003
and completed his assistantship in 2006 as an accordion performer and conductor. Also studied composition under Boris Semenenko and Professor Sergey Mamonov.
In 2013 Artem Nizhnik defended his thesis “Ukrainian accordion concert: development trends of the genre” at the Department of Music History at Lvov National musical academy named after Nikolay Lysenko and then, in 2014, received PhD in Art History.
Composer`s creative style and views were strongly influenced by the acquaintance and composition
lessons with Professor Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin (Vienna, Austria).
From 2003 to 2014 – senior teacher, associate professor of Accordion Performing at Donetsk State
Musical Academy named after Sergey Prokofiev.
From 2014 to 2018 – Associate Professor, Head of the Department of folk instruments at Belgorod State
Institute of Arts and Culture.
From 2018 to 2022 – Associate Professor of the Department of accordion and button accordion,
conductor and artistic director of the accordion orchestra at Saint Petersburg State Conservatory named
after Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
Artem Nizhnik composed a number of pieces for accordion and orchestra, for chamber ensembles with
accordion and numerous works for the accordion concert and didactic repertoire. He collaborated with
Ksenija Sidorova, Sib-Duo (Alexander Sirotkin and Andrey Bitutskih), Félicien Brut, Belgorod Russian
academic Orchestra and Evgeniy Aleshnikov, “Double Expression” (Evgenia Chirkova and Artem
Malkhasyan), Accordion Orchestra of Daugavpils and Tatyana Saratova and others.
Laureateships and awards (as a composer):
- 1998 – Grand Prix of the National Composers Competition named after M. Lysenko (Poltava, Ukraine);
- 2014 – Rosario Marciano International Composers Competition (Vienna, Austria) – for the composition
EIHA (for piano);
- 2018 – Award of the Government of Belgorod Region “Prohorovskoe pole” (Belgorod, Russia) – for the
best composition for Russian folk orchestra;
- 2020 – First Prize of the Futiang International Accordion Composers Competition (Futiang, China);
- 2021 – First Prize of the International Contest “Vivat, Bayan” (Samara, Russia).
Works by Artem Nizhnik were published by such publishing houses as «EDITION AVANTUS»
(Germany), “Composer” (Saint Petersburg) and “Music” (Moscow, Russia).
In 2022, Artem Nizhnik has repatriated to Israel and now lives in Jerusalem.
