The composer Arik Shapira was born in the Kibbutz Afikim.
Few years later his family moved to Petach Tikva, there he learnt piano with David Yasser.
In 1962 he started his first degree in Philosophy at the Tel Aviv University.
In 1963 he started his first degree in composition at the Academy of Tel Aviv University.
Among his teachers were Eden Partos, Mordechai Seter, Abel Ehrlich, Arthur Gelbrun and Gary Bertiny.
In 1965 he finished his BA in philosophy and a year later he finished his B muse in composition.
Arik Shapira married Bat Sheva in 1968. The couple has 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren

Arik Shapira passed away September 2015.

1994 - Israel Prize for composition and teaching
