Gabriel Iranyi

Gabriel Iranyi 1946, June 6, Born in Klausenburg (Cluj), Rumania
1953-65 Piano studies with Annemarie Bunzl at the Music School in Klausenburg and Harmony, Renaissance and Barok counterpoint with Max Eisikovits, Erwin Junger and Cornel Taranu.
1965-71 Composition with Prof. Dr. Sigismund Todutza (a former pupil of Pizzetti and Casella) at the "George Dima" Academy of Music in Klausenburg.
1971 Master of Arts (MA) in Composition and lecturer at the "George Enesco" High School of Music in lashi, Rumania
1977-87 Lecturer at the Rubin Academy of Music (Tel-Aviv University) and at the Kfar-Saba Conservatory in Israel.
1980-82 Studies in electro-acoustic music with Yitzhak Sadai and Joseph Dorfman at the Rubin Academy of Music, TAU.
1988 - Lecturer at the Leo-Borchard School of Music in Berlin. 1984-93 Important meetings with Gyorgy Ligeti (1984 Tel-Aviv), Morton Feldman (1984 Darmstadt), Gunther Becker (1985 Tel-Aviv) and Gyorgy Kurtag (1993 Berlin).
Since 1980 music director at the "Acoustic 7-11" composers group. Direction of the chamber concerts with contemporary music.
1978 and 1984 participation at the Summer Courses for New Music at Darmstadt, with a DAAD-feflowship (composition courses with C. Halffter, B. Ferneyhough and H. Lachenmann) and 1979 at the International Gaudeamus Music Week in Holland. Performances of own compositions.
Since 1992 participation as member of the Organisation Comitee of International Festivals of Jewish Art Music: Festival Vilnius 1992, Festival Odessa 1993 and Festival Berlin 1997 (Programm Conception). Since 1995 deputy president of the "Verein zur Foerderung juedischer Musik e.V". 1994 founder of the "Steglitzer Forum fuer Neue Musik" and musical direction of the chamber music concerts (Siemensvilla, Berlin-Lankwitz).

Prizes at international composition contests :
1978 "Gaudeamus Prize in Hol/and for the work "Solstice";
1979 2nd Prize at the "Arthur Rubinstein" Composition Contets in Israel for the piano work "De Profundis";
1980 1st prize at the "Valentino Bucchi" Contest for the work "Metaphor" for flute solo;
1987 prize of the Israel League of Composers for the work "The Severing of the Wing" for mixed choir a cappella.
