Alexander Povolotsky

Alexander Povolotsky, violinist and composer, was born in Ukraine in 1947 to a family of musicians and started studying the violin at the age of five. He studied his art with Prof. Mordkovich at Odessa Academy, the musical institution with very best traditions such renowned musicians as Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels and David Oistrakh were among its graduates.
Alexander Povolotsky was a prizewinner of many Republican and All-Union competitions. After graduating from the Academy in 1970 he was employed by the Philharmonic Society as a soloist and a 1 st violinist of the String Quintet, and then he played with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. At that time, he began his teaching career in Gnesin college in Moscow. 1975-1985 he played the 1 st violin with the Orchestra and Violin Ensemble of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. 1982-1985 he became the music director of the Ensemble. 1985-1990 he became a
member of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Soviet Union under the guidance of maestro Evgeny Svetlanov. He also composed music scores for the theatre and numerous ensembles, as well as having made several recordings for Moscow radio and TV.
In 1990 Alexander Povolotsky immigrated to Israel and became a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under maestro Zubin Mehta. He founded the “Trio Povolotsky” where he’s playing with his son Eugene and his daughter Marianna- violinists of the IPO. A. Povolotsky founded the soloist ensemble of the musicians as well of the IPO “Virtuosi of Tel-Aviv”. With those ensembles he gives concerts in Israel, USA, Canada and Europe and recorded four CDs with his own music and arrangements. His music books are sold all over Europe and USA. Competition in Poznan was opened with Alexander Povolotsky’s Concert Overture, based on original themes from Wieniawski’s works. Alexander was a member of the jury at that competition.
In 2009 Alexander created a musical Mono-play "Fantasy for Violin and Love" based on the novel S. Aleichem "Stempenyu” of the young generation. The play was a great success in the Israeli theater "Yiddishpiel" and has been featured in many theater festivals, including "Teatronetto"- 2011 in Tel - Aviv and the International Festival of monodrama «THESPIS» -2012 in Killen (Germany). Since 2014 Alexander actively cooperates with Vladimir SpivakovInternational Charity Foundation. He gives master classes and head jury in competitions. Since2015 supervises partnership "Promoting the development of culture and art of the younggeneration”.
